Biography

Harshada Rajani is a freelance writer and the co-founder of We Win, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people recovering from neurological injuries afford rehabilitation.

She comes to rehabilitation work through her own journey as a young stroke survivor. During her first year of medical school, a massive stroke changed all of her life plans. The stroke left her with locked-in syndrome—she was paralyzed bilaterally from head to toe. While she was cognitively intact, she was unable to speak. She has since fought to regain use of her voice and her muscles, and today proudly writes by typing with one finger.

Her writing has made its way onto HuffPost, Refinery29, VICE and other publications. Through her work with We Win, she helps patients and families navigate their tough times while also spreading awareness to the larger community about disability, healthcare costs and the importance of physical therapy. As a speaker, she shares her experience, educates medical professionals, and advocates for patients. She is at work on a memoir.
